Windows 8?s Store Grows Bigger, Still Far from Microsoft?s Expectations

The Windows Store is clearly growing at a faster pace after Microsoft officially rolled out the new Windows 8, but it?s still far from Microsoft?s forecasts of 100,000 apps by February.

According to WinAppUpdate, there are nearly 16,000 apps in the Windows 8 Store, with no less than 3,000 apps submitted in the last 8 days.

There are 15,968 apps available worldwide, while the United States version of the Store provides access to a total of 9,343 apps. Chinese users of the Windows 8 platform have even more apps to choose from, as the Store currently has 10,355 apps.

Microsoft, however, hopes to see 100,000 apps in the Store by February, especially because the operating system is now generally available not only on the desktop PC, but also on laptops and tablets.

There were more than 6,000 apps available on October 26 when Windows 8 officially went on sale.
