How does social media drive business revenue

Any doubt as to whether social media has an influence on the search engine optimization of other websites has now been put to rest, since Google have started advertising their tips on social media marketing within their web analytics home page (known simply as Google Analytics).
The trouble with this is the same as with all new search engine optimization rules--people blow its importance and impact out of perspective. This is especially true of online SEO companies who release articles claiming that social media integration and social media markers are the "must have" elements for this year, and that people will be cast adrift if they do not have it.

This obviously is not true, since web pages can quite easily reach the top spot, on search engines such as Google, without any social media integration, without any social media profiles (Facebook fan page for example), and without any secondary and/or indirect mentions on any social media platform. If you do not believe this then type in any keywords and check out the top five responses you get--you will find that three of them (on average) have little if any link with social media.?

Whilst we make sure to downplay the seemingly over inflated fact that social media has on your web page ranking, we must not forget that it is possible to gain (at least indirectly) some form of business revenue from social media. This is because it is a contact point with which a business can sell to the consumer. A savvy business owner would take this opportunity and run with it--in order to make more sales. Here is a run down of a few ways you can create a revenue stream from social media.

Any contact that the general public has with your products and your brand will help to solidify your brands prominence in their mind. This is a very indirect byproduct of social media when it is used by a company. It is also a very powerful method of maintaining and increasing business revenue. The overall effect of this exposure and its impact on the viewer depends very heavily upon the power of the brand and its influence over the reader. Nevertheless, exposure alone on any medium including social media does help to drive business revenue.

There are apps for mobile devices, which claim to be able to add a shopping cart to things such as Facebook so that people can buy directly from Facebook. The apps will probably be banned soon, but one cannot deny that at least at the moment it is generating business revenue for some people.

Other than the impact of having a presence on social media, the other most powerful way that social media can drive business revenue is through using social media platforms as information dissemination device. Certain companies can benefit greatly from having their message circulated around a large group of people.? For example, it is not very advantageous for an auto mechanic to disseminate the details of his offer for free servicing to thousands of Internet users, because it would drive very little business revenue into the business.? On the other hand if an online magazine were to use social media to disseminate information about the magazine the social media would (in their case) drive of a lot of business revenue into their coffers.
